2024 Rules & Bylaws

 

 

MISSION STATEMENT To provide a series of lamb shows designed to cater to the stock show industry; where education, experience without traveling every weekend, and rewards earned by the exhibitor, are priority.


 

DIVISIONS

Pee Wee - 7 years old or younger as of September 1, 2024
Junior - 8 to 11 years old as of September 1, 2024
Intermediate – 12 to 14 years old as of September 1, 2024
Senior - 15 to 18 years old as of September 1, 2024 with the exception of 19 year old high school seniors currently enrolled in the 12th grade at any public or private school in Texas. 

 


 

BREED DIVISIONS
Breeds will be classified into 6 divisions: however to make a breed division 10 head must be present at each show. In the event there aren’t 10 they will be combined into the White Face Cross or Medium Wools.

3. Whiteface Cross
4. Dorper

5. Natural

"TBSS" 2024 TEXAS BEST SHOW SERIES RULES AND REGULATIONS


 

ARTICLE I - NAME, PURPOSE AND CODE OF ETHICS
Section 1:
Name: The name of this show series shall be "Texas Best Show Series" and may also be referenced as "TBSS" and / or "Show Series".    

Section 2:
Purpose: The purpose of the Texas Best Show Series is to promote the Junior Market Lamb Exhibitors of Texas in a lawful, ethical and practical means through a series of jackpot shows managed under the direction of the Texas Best Show Series cumulating with an end of the year award system based on exhibitor age, breed of animal exhibited and overall performance in the show ring while making the whole experience educational and economically feasible for the participating exhibitors and families.

Section 3:
Code of Ethics: Any violation of the Code of Ethics is grounds for removal from the Texas Best Show Series 

I. TBSS members shall conduct themselves in a responsible and prudent manner at all times to defend and protect the reputation of themselves and the Texas Best Show Series. 

II. TBSS members will be just and fair in any and all dealings with each other. III. TBSS members shall abide by all rules of the Show Series and shall represent both themselves and their animals in an honest and law abiding manner at all times. No TBSS member shall use any unethical means to achieve an unfair advantage over his or her fellow exhibitors.

ARTICLE II – Membership

Section 1:
Membership is open to any boy or girl in the state of Texas in good standings, up to the age of 19 and currently enrolled in the 12th grade at any Texas public or private school or just completing his or her senior year.

Section 2:
Exhibitors are considered a member of TBSS by acknowledging the By Laws and providing a signature of the Exhibitor and the Parent or Guardian on the acknowledgment form of TBSS Official Show Entry Form.

Section 3:
No MEMBERSHIP FEES are required.

Section 4:
TBSS membership may be obtained at any time during the TBSS show season.

Section 5:
The fiscal year will begin on January 1st and conclude December 31st of each year. 


ARTICLE III – DIRECTORS

Section 1:
The TBSS Board of Directors shall consist of 10 volunteer members serving a term determined by their individual participation and personal commitment to TBSS.

Section 2:
Replacement for a Board Member who relinquishes his or her position shall be determined by the remaining Board Members through a majority vote.

Section 3:
A Board Meeting is not recognized unless a majority of the Board Members are present or available via electronic means for any business to be discussed.

Section 4:
All Decisions made by the Board of Directors are deemed FINAL.


ARTICLE IV – AMENDMENTS

Section 1:
The Constitution and By Laws of the TBSS may be amended at any time by a majority vote from the Board of Directors. 


ARTICLE V – EXPULSIONS

Section 1:
If any member of TBSS is accused of any infractions of the Constitution and or By Laws of the Show Series which in any way may imperil the reputation and or welfare of the show series, the Board of Directors shall investigate the matter. A just opportunity will be given to the member to appear before the Board of Directors in his or her defense. If the charge is sustained by sufficient proof, the offending member shall be expelled provided the Board of Directors votes with a majority in favor thereof. The expulsion will be permanent.

ARTICLE VI – ANIMAL WELFARE

Section 1:
Animal welfare rules and regulations will strictly comply with set rules deemed official by governing bodies of the Texas 4-H and Texas FFA.

Section 2:
Physical abuse of an animal at any TBSS show will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in the abuse of an animal will be asked to leave the show. No refunds of entry fees will be given and all points for the exhibitor for that show will be forfeited. Future participation by the exhibitor (and/or the person or persons involved in the violation) at a sanctioned TBSS show will be decided by the Board of Directors of TBSS. All decisions will be final.


ARTICLE VII – SAFETY AND RESPONSIBILITY

Section 1:
TBSS and individual TBSS Show Management do not accept responsibility for the safety of participants and or any other parties involved in or attending a TBSS event.

Section 2:
All participants, exhibitors, family members, friends, third parties, breeders or general attendees agree to be personally responsible for their own individual well-being and safety and do not hold TBSS, TBSS Directors, TBSS Show Managers, TBSS Show Officials and any and all involved in a TBSS event responsible for any liability of any shape or form and including personal injury or property damage occurring as a result of participating in a TBSS event. 


ARTICLE VIII – TBSS AGE DIVISIONS

Section 1:
Age Divisions will be based on age as of September 1, 2024

Section 2:
Pee Wee – 7 years old or younger as of September 1st
Junior – 8 to 11 years old as of September 1st
Intermediate 12 to 14 years old as of September 1st
Senior – 15 to 18 years old as of September 1st with the exception of 19 year old high school seniors currently enrolled in the 12th grade at any public or private school in Texas.


ARTICLE IX – TBSS AWARDS

Section 1: Belt Buckles
A. TBSS will award a trophy belt buckles to the high point individual Pee Wee, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior exhibitor in the Southdown, Finewool, Whiteface Cross, Dorper, Natural and Medium Wool breed divisions.
B. TBSS will award trophy belt buckles to the Divisional All Around Champion in the Pee Wee, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions based on total points accumulated including showmanship. Exhibitors must show 2 different breeds to be eligible for year-end awards in the All Around  (at least 1 ring of a second breed).
C. TBSS will award a trophy belt buckle to the high point individual Pee Wee, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior exhibitor in the Showmanship Division.  (Buckles will also be awarded to High Point Individuals tied in any Breed, All Around or Showmanship divisions.)
D. Exhibitors MUST show in 3 rings with the same breed to be eligible for year-end awards in that breed.

Section 2: Jackets
A. TBSS will award Jackets to the TOP 5 Exhibitors in each Southdown, Finewool, Whiteface Cross, Dorper, Natural, Medium Wool breed divisions and Showmanship based on point totals.
B. Breed divisions where there are 20 or more exhibitors whom have competed in three or more rings will be increased to a top 10 division jacket category.

ARTICLE XI – TBSS SHOW RULES

Section 1: Shows Per Year
The TBSS Board of Directors will approve 3 TBSS shows for the show season.  TBSS Board of Directors reserves the right to have fewer shows due to unforeseen circumstances.

Section 2: Rings Per Show
A. Each approved TBSS show will be comprised of 2 rings and will be designated as Show A and Show B.
B. Show A will be independent of Show B.  Weighs can be submitted independently of each Show.
C. Show B can be entered without entering and/or showing in Show A.

Section 3: Entry Fees
Entry Fees for all TBSS shows will be $35.00 per head per show.

Section 4: Show Payout Schedule
Below is how the entry fees will be paid back as prize money and awards based on the TBSS approved Payout Schedule: $15 is used for venue, judges, show expenses. 


  • $15.00 per head will be dispersed in the respective class
  • $1.00 per head will be paid to Breed Champions
  • $0.50 per head will be paid to Reserve Breed Champions
  • $2.00 per head will be paid to the Grand Champion
  • $1.00 per head will be paid to the Reserve Grand Champion
  • $0.50 per head will be paid to the Third Overall Lamb

Section 5: Classification of Breeds and Show Order
A. All TBSS entries (show A&B at each TBSS show) will be classified by breed at the discretion of the TBSS Board of Directors by either a single classifier, a 3 person classifying system, or the consensus of the Board (at least 3 Board Member’s agreeing, on site).

B. Any lamb classed out of show A will automatically be classed out of show B.

C. Any lamb classed out of any TBSS show, by TBSS Board consensus, is subject to / will automatically be classed out of the remainder of TBSS shows for that TBSS show season.

D. Entries that have been classed out are eligible to show as follows:
1. Finewool as Whiteface Cross
2. Whiteface Cross as Medium Wool
3. Dorper as Medium Wool
4. Southdown as Medium Wool
5. Natural as Medium Wool

E. Breeds will be shown in the following order:
1. Fine Wool
2. Whiteface Cross
3. Southdown
4. Dorper
5. Natural
6. Medium Wool

F. Showmanship will be shown in the following order:
1. Senior
2. Intermediate
3. Junior
4. Pee Wee 


Section 6: Class Weight Breaks and Weigh Back
A. Class weight breaks will be determined and approved by a TBSS Board Members,
keeping the classes as close to the same number per breed per class as possible. 

B. All TBSS shows will enforce a Five Pound (5 lb.) Weigh Back in all classes.
C. If an entry “Weighs Out” of a class, the entry is automatically removed from the class and show.
D. Show A will have class weigh backs
E. Weigh backs for Show B will be at the discretion of each The Board of Directors.
F. The TBSS Board of Directors reserves the right to weigh back any lamb at any time
G. A TBSS Board Member will preside over the scales during weigh-back. 


Section 7: Points
A. TBSS exhibitors will be able to count all 6 rings toward the end of the year awards. TBSS exhibitors MUST attend 3 shows to be eligible for year end awards (buckles, jackets, etc), but points will be counted on 6 rings.

B. TBSS exhibitors will be awarded points on a maximum of 5 head per show and a maximum of 3 head per breed.
The three highest point values per breed and the 5 highest point values per show will automatically be recorded unless written notification of a desired change is submitted and received in writing or by electronic communication within 10 days of the show where the points were earned.

C. Points will be awarded on an INVERTED POINT SYSTEM.
Total number of entries per class of animals shown will equal number of points awarded to class winner.
“Class Outs” will not count toward total entries used for point system.
“Class Outs” will count in the class the lambs are reassigned.

Weighed Out lamb does not receive points but bumps points for other exhibitors.

Fungus/Ringworms lamb does not receive points but bumps points for other exhibitors.
EX: Fourteen (14) head entered in class. Two (2) head “Class Out”, One (1) head “Fungus/Ringworms”, and One (1) head “Weigh Out”, Twelve (12) head
will be counted for the class:
1st = 12 points
2nd = 11 points
3rd = 10 points
4th = 9 points
5th = 8 points
6th = 7 points
7th = 6 points
8th = 5 points
9th = 4 points
10th = 3 points
Weighed Out and/or Fungus/Ringworms/Disqualified lamb does not receive points but bumps points for other exhibitors.

D. Breed Champions will be awarded 3 additional points and Reserve Breed Champions will be awarded 2 additional points. Breed Champions will receive the same number of points as highest point class winner in the respective breed and Reserve Breed Champions will receive the same number of points as second highest point class winner.

E. Overall Grand Champion will be awarded 4 additional points. Overall Reserve Grand Champion will be awarded 3 additional points.
Third Overall Placing Champion will be awarded 2 additional points.

F. TBSS reserves the exclusive right to correct any and all point’s standings during the TBSS show season.

G. All TBSS points and standings will be made available to all TBSS members

H. Showmanship points will be counted on the top ten placing exhibitors in the same inverted point system.
Example: 20 exhibitors in a showmanship class the top 10 will receive points as follows:
1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 9 points
3rd place = 8 points
4th place = 7 points
5th place = 6 points
6th place = 5 points
7th place = 4 points
8th place = 3 points
9th place = 2 points
10th place = 1 point
However, if there are fewer than 10 exhibitors, 1st place still receives 10 points and on down as if there were 10 exhibitors.
 

I. In order to compete in the show or showmanship, an exhibitor MUST HAVE at least 1 entry and exhibit/show in the class.

J. Showmanship will be available for both Show A and Show B.  Year-end points will be totaled based upon 6 rings.


Section 8: Exhibitor Substitutions
A. All entries must be shown by the exhibitor to which the entry was made except for classes in which the exhibitor has more than one entry in the class. The named exhibitor must show the highest placing lamb in any drive Breed or Champion. No exceptions based on injury, illness or absence.

B. Substitute show person must be a member of the TBSS with a signed acknowledgement of the TBSS Rules and Regulations on file with TBSS.


Section 9: Animal Ownership
All animals exhibited at TBSS shows must be owned by the exhibitor or owned by a member of the same household.


Section 10: No Paint Rule
No painting, powdering or artificial color is allowed that can be detected by the show classifiers.  All animals not in compliance will be disqualified from the show. No black paint or adhesives. 


Section 11: Shearing
Lambs must be shorn slick to the skin above knee and hock joints as well as the complete underline including fore flank, belly and rear flank. All animals not in compliance will be disqualified from the show. No belly wool allowed. 


Section 12: Ringworm or Fungus
Any lamb exhibiting ringworm or club lamb fungus will not be allowed to show at any TBSS event.

Determination of live or old fungus will be left up to a discretion of the board.   All rulings will be final upon the TBSS board's determination.

Any lambs must not have any fungus, any lamb with fungus will be disqualified from the show.
The number of lambs in the class will stay the same.
The Fungus lamb will not receive any points but the remaining lambs will move up in points.


Section 13: Scratching an Entry
Any entry that is scratched after the deadline for entry will forfeit entry fees.
The number of lambs in the class will stay the same.
The scratched lamb will not receive any points but the remaining lambs will move up in points.


Section 14: Judge Selection
A. Judges will be nominated by the TBSS Board of Directors.

B. A majority vote by the TBSS Board of Directors will determine which judges will be approved

C. A TBSS Board Member will be in charge of arranging logistics for approved judges

Section 15:Showman Assistance
Only one (1) person per animal is permitted in the show arena during the exhibition of showmanship and individual classes, with exceptions made by one of the following:

A. A physical or mental disability that prevents the proper handling of the animal without assistance or,
B. A handler has a physical injury (sprained ankle, broken arm, etc.) that requires assistance.

Any request for an assistant shall be presented to a TBSS Director at the time the entry is submitted or before the beginning of the show. In the event that an assistant is required and approved, the assistant shall provide the least amount of interference as possible for the handler to properly display the animal.
